Updates Regarding the Slender Studios Brand

Finalized Branding Update

Over the past year, we've been working to modernize and clean-up the branding of our logo, colors, and name. We began rolling out these branding changes to our main website in June 2024, but now the branding changes are complete. All of our social profiles, websites, and blogs are equipped with the new logo and accent color. Let's dive deeper.

New Color Palette

Our old color palette consisted of a color we called "Slender Studios Green" and lots of black, white, gray, and silver. The first thing we looked at when beginning our rebrand was how dull Slender Studios Green was and how drab our brand looked using neutral colors like black, white, and gray to complement it. So, we devised a new set of more vibrant, poppy colors that are now being used across Slender Studios.
Our main color for the Slender Studios Media brand is Romaine, with its accents being Aquarium and, every-so-often, Tangerine. For the Slender Studios Music Brand, the main color is Rose, complemented by Midnight. For other parts of websites like backgrounds and headers, we use lighter shades of the main accent color of the corresponding brand to add some contrast. Although we still use black and dark gray, we reserve those colors for text and less important visual elements like site navigation or footers.

New Division of Brands

Speaking of Slender Studios Media and Slender Studios Music, those are our two new, more clearly purposed divisions of the Slender Studios parent company that allow us to express ourselves more openly. Slender Studios Media is a division for producing media other than music (e.g. video games, art, programs, videos, etc.) whereas Slender Studios Music serves as a music publisher (of either digital recordings or sheet music) for Slender Studios. Slender Studios itself, as the parent company, is now simply in charge of managing both of these new divisions and no longer has a public presence.

New Websites

For simplicity's sake, the new Slender Studios Media website will just replace the Slender Studios Website on slenderstudios.com. As for Slender Studios Music, it will be given a new home at music.slenderstudios.com.

Slendorum Down (Noticed 6/15/23)

If you weren’t aware, Slendorum was and still is the name of our forum website for Slender Studios. On June 15, 2023, we realized that the current hosting provider we were using terminated our websites and accounts without prior warning and for absolutely no reason. We are currently switching hosting providers, so Slendorum should be up and running again in a couple of days. Being that all of our data was erased, we will have to recreate as much as we can.

Thanks for your patience.

UPDATE: June 16, 2023:

Slendorum is back up an running. The site was not terminated, and nor were our accounts. They were simply deactivated temporarily due to inactivity.

Thank you for your patience.

Updated Support Timeline for the Search Crew 1.15 Experience Website

transition115-20

As the months have gone by, we, Slender Studios, have been putting more work towards maintaining Search Crew 2, planning the future of Search Crew, and working on other projects entirely. Through this time, we haven’t had any need to update, improve, or work on Search Crew 1.15 at all. Therefore, we think that right now it is best to put the Search Crew 1.15 Experience aside, and make room for the future of Search Crew.

That is why we are updating its support timeline as of June 4, 2023. Beginning today, the Search Crew 1.15 Experience Website will begin to display a message on the home and search results page notifying existing users that their time using Search Crew 1.15 is running out. Search Crew 1.15 will remain active and usable until June 30, 2023. Then, the site will display a large screen that will contain a message and a button that when pressed will redirect you to the latest version of Search Crew.

If you are continuing to utilize the Search Crew 1.15 Experience Website, please consider upgrading. Search Crew 2 brings a browser extension, theme support, and an updated and more practical image search interface, among other things. There is really no reason to continue using Search Crew 1.15 after its EOL (End of Life) date.

At Slender Studios, we see Search Crew 1.x versions as a foundation and building block for what was to come as Search Crew 2, as well as future versions of Search Crew. We can all agree that it served its purpose well for the time it was mainstream, but now its time to move on. Thank you to anyone who has used Search Crew 1.x or 2.0, and continues to use it to this day.

Search Crew 2.0.0 is now officially available!

We're actually a day early, but we could not wait any longer to show you what we've done. Introducing, Search Crew 2! Search Crew 2 has been in development for over three months and has totally changed what the definition of Search Crew is. Instead of trying to create a competitor to Google or Bing, this time we're trying to appeal to Frutiger Aero and Skeuomorphism enthusiasts. If you're like us, you'll know how much better websites looked in 2010!
But all that aside, let's talk about the new features in Search Crew 2. The first and largest one of them all is definitely Bespoke Accents. We haven't really seen many search engines implement themes into their user interfaces. So, we wrote some simple JavaScript, and made Frutiger Aero style header-bar themes. There are two other categories at launch as well. If you're an Apple enthusiast, you may appreciate the inclusion of nine themes based on iPod Touch 5 colors, and some of the other models Apple released in that time period. If you like cheese, then you can rock a cheese theme from Cheesetopia! We've picked nine different cheese -based themes to enhance the taste of our search engine (pun intended).
The second new feature can be found on our homepage. If you're feeling curious, then just take a look at our weekly Explore Prompt. It may have to do with current events, holidays, or just fun facts. This also affects the background of the search engine homepage. It will reflect the weekly prompt with an image that suits the topic of the prompt. The reason that this was implemented was because we saw that other search engines had been doing similar things for years. Bing even still does this type of a thing today. Not to mention Google Doodles.
There are a couple of other minor changes to Search Crew, but nothing worth going into depth about. These include code fixes and revisions and element relocations and restyling throughout the search engine.
Hopefully, anyone and everyone who decides to use Search Crew will appreciate these improvements. I know we've been using Search Crew ever since day one. We currently have a Firefox and Microsoft Edge Extension. But sadly, we don't think it will be possible for us to publish a Chrome Extension. And yes, we've had a mobile app for Android devices on the Google Play Store since late March or early April of 2023. You can learn more at https://searchcrew.github.io/. Thank you to all who helped out during the development process on JavaScripters and Stack Overflow.
